Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre What it is: A rich moisturizer made for the makeup artist. A 3 for 1 product, acts as a primer, moisturizer, as well as a makeup remover. What it does: This product moisturizes, preps the skin for a clean, flawless makeup application, and also works as a gentle makeup remover. A 3 in 1 product made for the makeup artist and perfect for the traveling makeup lover. Great for the boyfriend as well ... this product reduces irritation from shaving as well! Why it's my Product of the Week: A definite "go-to" product in both my professional and personal makeup kit. I love it. The talent love it. The clients love it. I've been using it for a while now and I can't fathom a makeup application (both on a client as well as myself) without it. Add Comment September 27, 2010 11/01/2010
Amazing Cosmetics Concealer What it is: A super emollient concealer that melts right into the skin. What it does: A concealer that is so highly pigmented and easy to spread that the tiniest amount can cover all your blemishes and more. From blemishes to broken capillaries to dark under eye circles to whatever else you need covered up ... this product can do it all. Why it's my Product of the Week: With record breaking heat waves hitting Southern California, the last thing I want on my face is more product. Unfortunately, the heat wave has come up on us at a time when my skin has decidedly chosen to hate me. Thankfully, with just a few dabs of this magical concealer, I don't have to worry about packing on the makeup to cover up those ungodly blemishes. September 20, 2010 09/28/2010
Shu Uemura Lash Curler What it is: It is a staple amongst all makeup lovers. With its perfect rounded shape, it is able to crimp all your lashes in one grab. What it does: The Shu Uemura lash curler is a tool loved by celebrities and their makeup artists alike. Simply crimp your lashes with this tool to create the perfectly curled eyelashes to last all day long. Why it's my Product of the Week: I have short lashes. And they point downwards. Thanks to the Shu Uemura lash curler I no longer have to worry about lifeless, curtain-like lashes. This is more like a product of my life. I use this everyday I (whether I wear makeup or not) and will use it on every client as well. August 2, 2010 09/20/2010
Bodyography's Canvas Eye Mousse What it is: A creamy eyeshadow base infused with Dermaxyl and Vitamins A, C, and E. What it does: Aside from its standard eyeshadow base duties (prevents creasing, increases wear time of eyeshadows, allows for brighter color pay off, and creates a smooth surface for the shadows to be applied) the Dermaxyl in the formula is an anti-wrinkle ingredient. Along with Dermaxyl's anti-aging abilities, the Vitamins A, C, and E protect, brighten, and mask the appearance of any blue-ness (mainly from veins) on the eye/eyelid. Why it's my Product of the Week: As a professional makeup artist one of my key responsibilities to my client is to prolong a look's longevity (especially important for bridal). Another responsibility I have to my client is their skin's well being (well, I guess it's more like a favor to my clients). With Bodyography's Canvas Eye Mousse, not only do I give my clients' eye makeup a beautiful finish and long wear time, I give their eyes an anti-aging, vitamin infused treatment as well. MAC Cosmetics Fluidline - Blacktrack What it is: A long-wearing, smudge-proof gel eyeliner. What it does: The liner is applied with a thin eyeliner brush--which allows for greater control than liquid eyeliner applicators. It applies creamy and smooth and results in a matte/satin finish. Why it's my Product of the Week: I have your typical asian mono lid. While it does have its advantages (my eyeshadow doesn't crease!) ... there's a number of disadvantages as well. Maintaining my eyeliner, for example, is one of them. The tiniest, TINIEST bit of moisture wears down my eyeliner. Whether it's from smudging or smearing, my eyeliners refuse to stay on (even with a layer of black powder over my liner). While Urban Decay's 24/7 eyeliner does work for me, I use it more for my waterline than anything. By using fluidline I can get the thinnest (or thick, if desired) most precise line for my upper lid just by switching up the brush I use. The finish is beautifully dark, dark black ... and I love how easy it is to apply. The product is super creamy and applies smoothly. It's my go-to product for any long day / night. Nurturing Force's Aloe Vera Skincare Blot Out Offensive Shine + Oil Control Cream What it is: The Blot Out Offensive is a dream product for any makeup lover. Why, you ask? it is a oil and shine control priming moisturizer that is Paraben-free, Silicone-free, Alcohol-free, and comes in a fast absorbing cream form. Get all that? Oh and lets not forget that this is considered a skincare product. One of its main ingredients is aloe vera (you all know how much I love Aloe Vera) and does wonders for sensitive, hormonal, blemished skin. What it does: As mentioned above, this product covers just about everything in the skin prep process for great makeup application. Here's a few things that the product does ... and why it's so great. 1. It's HD friendly. VERY important for any working makeup artist especially for close up photos or almost all film/TV nowadays. 2. A primer/moisturizer/oil and shine control all in one. This is fabulous as less is more in the makeup world. The last thing you want is 4 layers of product before any makeup touches the face. It does make a difference. 3. It is Paraben, Silicon, and Alcohol Free. It is Aloe Vera infused. This makes it free of irritation and perfect for those with sensitive skin. Aloe vera is known for its healing properties so this works out great for blemish prone skin. 4. It is a fast-absorbing barrier cream, not a gel primer. Gels tend to slip and slide on the face and take a bit to set. The fast absorbing cream prevents any sliding, cracking, or bubbling of the makeup. 5. The formula works for all different foundations ... including airbrush makeup. Why it's my Product of the Week: This week has been about sporting what the good Lord has given me *at least on my face haha*. I've never been a heavy makeup wearer to begin with ... but I just wanted to give my face a breather from makeup. My skin has a tendency to get oily and even break out during the summer season, so giving it a few days to go without anything does it a world of good. Thanks to the Blot Out Offensive I haven't had to constantly oil blot my face and worry about surprise break outs. This product is just as good for you with or without makeup. Give it a shot and lemme know what you think! It is 100% Vegan and cruelty-free, and to top it off it's free of parabens and harsh preservatives as well. It is infused with peppermint and hemp oil with a dose of vitamin E which allows for a super smooth application with a minty fresh finish. While it comes in a wide range of colors you can always mix to custom create your dream shade--in fact, OCC's website even states that they were meant for mixing. What it does: The tiniest, TINIEST amount goes a super long way with this product. It glides on smooth and glossy, and results in a nice, even, satiny cream finish. Why it's my Product of the Week: Summer to me is about fun, bright lips and OCC Lip Tars provides just that. BUT that's not the only reason I chose this product. The biggest factor for me, as a professional makeup artist, is if a product is HD compatible. Because HD cameras can pick up more than the naked eye ... any build up of color on the lips *especially if it ends up looking gloopy* looks two times as worse on an HD camera. What OCC Lip Tars provides is a thin layer of pigment with a smooth, non-streaky finish that doesn't look heavy on camera. it's long wearing, looks and feels incredible, conditions your lips, and can be mixed to every color of the rainbow. Purely Cosmetics' Diamond Perfect Finish What it is: A product made with real diamonds and a patented diamond complex to create the most flawless, airbrushed look. What it does: The finely milled diamond powder translucently settles into lines and pores all while the photoluminescence subtly illuminates a blue glow that decreases the appearance of wrinkles and pores. No worries ... your face won't reflect any blue ;). The diamond powder bends and refracts just the right amount of light to give you a healthy glow to the face *not shine*. Why it's my Product of the Week: This summer season has been all about products that allow for the healthiest look and glow without looking oily. The Diamond Perfect Finish creates a beautifully finished look that feels soft and smooth on the skin. I was given the opportunity to try a sample of this product and immediately fell in love. I have sensitive skin and have not had any adverse reactions to the product. I've been given compliment after compliment on how nice my skin looks on days I finish my makeup look with this finishing powder. I find myself reaching for my Diamond Perfect Finish on days I want to impress and I'm pretty certain if you give it a shot ... you will too. You can purchase this product at: www.purelycosmetics.com or at the Pasadena IMATS this June. Neutragena's Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunbock with Helioplex What it is: Sunblock that can be used as a primer during the summer season What it does: This sunblock is waterproof, sweatproof, and resists rub-off. Most importantly, it protects against both UVA and UVB. What makes this sunblock so amazing is the fact that it's a non-comedogenic product and will not clog any pores. This sunblock is oil-free, PABA free, absorbs quickly into the skin, AND leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth. This weightless formula is perfection for the summer season. Why it's my Product of the Week: Sun damage to the skin results in loss of collagen and elastin fibers--key elements to keeping your skin firm and wrinkle-free. It can also result in sallowness and discoloration of the skin, and worse--skin cancer. To prevent premature aging ALWAYS wear sunblock ... and not just during summer either. My favorite thing to do during summer is to use Neutragena's Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock 55 SPF as my SPF source as well as my makeup primer. The oil-free, waterproof/sweatproof quality creates a smooth makeup-ready palette that ensures long wear all while protecting my skin from any sun damage. May 24, 2010 05/31/2010
Urban Decay's All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray What it is: A makeup setting spray that ensures 16 hours of makeup perfection. What it does: It would probably be easier to list what it DOESN'T do, BUT I'll share with you all anyway. This weightless formula has temperature control technology that keeps makeup from melting in warm/humid weather, or dehydrating in cold/windy weather. By simply misting your face from about 6-8 inches away, this product will keep your makeup from fading, caking, and cracking while resisting moisture from sweating or crying. Feel free to party in the summer sun all day and night long without having to worry about touching up your makeup. Why it's my Product of the Week: So the summer season is approaching and the last thing I want to do while I'm out with my friends is worry about how my makeup is holding up. Instead of wasting precious sunshine, I rely on my All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray to confidently get me through the day. Enjoy the sun and the company of your friends ... not the inside of your compact ;) You can purchase at: www.urbandecay.com May 17, 2010 05/24/2010
Benefit's CORALista What it is: A face powder in the perfect coral-pink summer time shade. What it does: Adds a touch of bronzy peach to the skin to create the perfect sun kissed look to your skin. Why it's my Product of the Week: Just because the weather has been a toss up between sunshine with a bit of wind or gloominess with a bit of rain does not mean us Southern Californians should go without our "tans." Thanks to Benefit's CORALista, that won't have to be a problem. Along with its adorable packaging and cute little brush applicator, comes a color that is perfect for all skin tones. Try it out and let me know what you think! Check out their products at: www.benefitcosmetics.com May 10, 2010 05/17/2010
Best Bath Store's Acne Bar Soap What it is: Best Bath Store's Acne Bar Soap is a facial bar soap made up of Australian Olive Green Clay, Manuka Honey and oil, Vitamin E, and Seaweed. This bar of soapy goodness combats acne like no other soap out there. What it does: Free of any harmful chemicals, this bar of soap combats the oils that cause acne, revitalizes the skin, and results in (and maintains) acne free skin. While Best Bath Store recommends it be used with the rest of its Acne Treatment Line, this bar of soap does plenty for the skin on its own. Why it's my Product of the Week: Summer is almost here--that alone should explain why a skincare product has made it to the top of my list. There's not a lot of people out there who excitedly pile on the foundation during those hot summer days and nights so hopefully this will give you ample time to order the soap, get your skin under control, and confidently go about your summer days with minimal coverage. As someone who has had their fair share of acne problems in the past, I GLADLY share with you this miracle bar of soap. You can thank me for it later.
